Periods :: Your Monthly Woman hangover!

I can bet that you hate your monthly visitor huh? You can feel her coming making you bloat, cramp, be a BITCH. It actually doesn't have to be like that. The pain and anguish you experience is a result of how you treated yourself the whole month. PMS(premenstrual syndrome; any of a complex of symptoms experienced by SOME women in the days immediately before menstruation.) is caused by the foods your eating, water intake, personal hygiene, physical activity, sexual health and stress. So how do you stop the misery?

1. The food: Cut down on your meat, caffeine, and dairy in-take. The most ideal thing would be to say no meat or dairy at least a week before and during your menstruation. No caffeine during. Eat more fruits and vegetables. For water retention and bloating try tofu, beans, oats, and nuts. Dark chocolate for depression; go for 60% cacao.

2. Water in-take: Drink more water!! The more water you drink the less you will bloat and the cleaner your blood will be. The reason you bloat is because your body wants to make sure you have enough water to do what it needs to do, so it stores it. If you are drinking enough it will not hold on to it and will clean you out faster. I suggest drinking about half your weight in ounces a day.

3. Take a Bath: Calm yourself with a warm bath. It's not going to be a blood bath, don't worry! (That was suppose to be a funny!) This will relax the tension in your upper legs, pelvic area, and lower abdomen. For increased relaxation you can add lavender, clary sage, rose, or rosemary oil to your bath.

4.Tea Time: Drink rich red teas such as raspberry leaf, cranberry, strawberry, and hibiscus to get the root warm and uterus shedding gently. Dong quai, a Chinese herb is for universal menstrual health. Chamomile to ease the body and mind.

5. Physical Activity: While menstruating, keep your physical activity light. If you are able to be off the first day of your menstruation, take it! Your body is going through a very special time in which most of your energy will be going towards cleansing your uterus. Light yoga will uplift your mood. Avoid any upside down postures, your body is working with gravity at this time. Take this time to open your root chakra with hip rotations ,leg stretches, or even dancing.

6. SEX: You should be only sexually active with someone you trust and cares for you fully. Sex with multiple partners picking up different bacteria from a stew of hosts is causing inflammation in the uterine wall causing clots and dark bleeding. Not to mention if you are not mentally trusting this person your body is going to react to internal and true thoughts, think of your uterus actually shuttering at the fact of you letting this person enter you. So what does it do? It builds a defense so it can be cleaned out when time. I do not suggest sex while you bleed, but if you have someone loving, gentle and careful at that time feel free. It is a great way to relieve cramps and depression.

7. Honor your Womanhood: Have woman time; meet with your cycle sister bond and talk. Get cozy with your most comfortable clothes. Read a book. Watch your favorite movie or show.

On the metaphysical level your pain is caused by rejection of the feminine process, unwilling to go with the flow (No pun intended... Yes that was suppose to be yet ANOTHER funny!) and/or having conflicting emotions. Your period is nothing to hate in fact you should feel uplifted and powerful at this time. You are a woman, you can birth babies, your self cleansing all because of this Cycle. Trying to fight the flow of life is like trying to control the ocean; it is powerful and has no emotion to your personal situation either you survive in it or it takes you under. Ups and downs are inevitable, don't stress. Take time to yourself be in silence and listen to your higher self for guidance through life. Now go forth and EMBRACE your MOON! Next Friday we will go in depth on how your woman cycle correlates to the moon.

Peace. Love. Light. Life
